Are you debating about whether to attend our conference on February 3 and 4? In addition to our awesome keynote speakers, Executive Board Member Patti Niese offers her thoughts on why someone should attend:
Attending the OCTELA two day conference gives me a burst of energy and ideas that are desperately needed in our gray, dreary winter. I always walk away refreshed and full of new ideas that I use in my class. I never use all the ideas in one year, but I keep the resources and try them as I can. Each year I meet new people and am able to connect with other ELA teachers at all levels throughout the state. Some that I only see at the conference. Teaching can be very isolating. Many people only have 1 person that teaches the same subject and grade level. This gives you a chance to brainstorm and collaborate. The connections are a big draw. I have very, VERY dear friends that I made through OCTELA that will be lifelong friends. When I got my first full time job, they were just as excited for me as my family. The people are the biggest benefit to being a member! I know that if I’m struggling with a lesson, classroom issue or any issue for that matter, help is only as far as my phone or computer.
